Kelly Ripa—Honorary Values Gal April 2012 This month we recognize talk show host Kelly Ripa of Live! With Kelly as our Honorary Values Gal. Married to Mark Consuelos since 1996, Kelly is the mother of three and has been on television since 1986, most notably as an actress on the popular soap opera All My Children prior to becoming Regis Philbin’s co-host in 2001 on Live! With Regis & Kelly. Kelly resides in New York City with her family.
Happiness – It appears that there is always a smile on Kelly’s face. Her wit and personality shine through on her show as she clearly enjoys finding the “funny” in whatever she is speaking about. And when she starts to feel a little down, what does she do? “I think about my husband in the middle of the day because I love him and I can't wait to see him," Ripa says. "He is my best friend. Nobody knows me the way he knows me.” And it is love that is behind much of her happiness.
Gratitude – Kelly is immensely grateful for her life and all that has come her way. In a recent interview she spoke about her family’s ritual of going to church. Noting that it is often difficult to get up and keep to this ritual, she said, “…at the end of the day, we've been so fortunate that the least we can do is go and say thank you and be reflective for an hour.”
Accountability – There is no way to do all that Ripa does without having accountability at the forefront of her life. She has three children. She hosts a daily talk show for which she must prepare every day. She is up by dawn most days in order to get the kids off to school before going to work. Then before the kids get home from school she exercises - every day. She is accountable to herself, her family, her work and her fans. There’s no other way she could keep all of her commitments and obligations if she wasn’t.
Love – When Kelly speaks of her children and her husband you feel the love. The things that she does for them exhibit this – the way that she respects their wishes and reveres them is a testament to her love. "I love my grown-up life, I love being with my family, raising my kids.”
Self-Respect - Kelly said she has had to learn not to make decisions based on fear. When opportunities arise she is likely to think of how things could go awry and then base her decision on that scenario. Her husband has helped her visualize success instead of failure when it comes to making big decisions and her own confidence has grown over the years such that she will take on whatever she feels is right, regardless of what others think.
